  • After making landfall in the western Kimberley region (Western Australia) on 7 January, Tropical Cyclone BLAKE is weakening as it moves south and is expected to dissipate on 8 January. 
  • On 8 January at 0.00, its centre was approximately 50 km north of Marble Bar Town (Pilbara region), with maximum sustained winds of 65 km/h.
  • Heavy rain is forecast over most of Pilbara and could reach the Great Sandy Desert, easing the fire danger further south in West Australia. Flood warnings are in effect for west Kimberley and for Pilbara, while a severe weather warning, including strong winds and heavy rain has been issued for Pilbara.

  • Tropical Cyclone BLAKE formed over the Indian Ocean on 3 January, moving south-west towards the Kimberley Coast (north Western Australia).
  • On 7 January at 0.00 (UTC), its centre was located approximately 30 km north-west of Lagrange (Broome Municipality), with maximum sustained winds of 74 km/h.
  • BLAKE is forecast to weaken as it moves south, making landfall over southern Broome on the afternoon of 7 January.
  • Media report over a hundred people sheltered in a centre in Broome.
  • Strong winds and heavy rain is forecast over coastal areas over 7-8 January and a flood warning has been issued for west Kimberly.
