Ghana, June 2022Local media reported flooding in several regions of Ghana after heavy rain from 15 June. Flooding affected wide areas of Accra city. Images shared on Social Media showed damaging floods in Taifa town in the Ga East Municipal District in the Greater Accra Region. As of 16 June no injuries or fatalities were reported. Military were deployed to affected areas of Greater Accra to help rescue flood victims. During this period flooding was also reported in Koforidua in the Eastern Region and Cape Coast in the Central Region. Flooding struck again in Central Region from around 18 June, damaging around 500 homes in Ankaful. Authorities said around 9,000 people were evacuated or affected. An emergency worker died during the evacuations. The overflowing Surowi river destroyed a bridge in Jukwa, Central Region, during this period. The overflowing river caused flooding in other areas of Jukwa and the surrounding Twifo Heman Lower Denkyira District. NADMO reported people displaced and one feared dead. On 22 June rain caused flooding along roads near Sekondi-Takoradi city, Western Region. Media reported vehicles were submerged in the deep water.Wed 22 Jun 2022FloodList provided by Copernicus GLOFAS
